The Girl and the Sea is a black and white tainted sepia fine-art photograph created along the west coast of South Africa and originally shot on Pentax 67 medium format film. A solitary woman folds towards the water, her hands cradling her head as her hair spills into the shallows. The gesture feels both intimate and elemental, as though the boundary between body and sea has briefly dissolved.

Romy has always been drawn to the quiet dialogue between the body and nature—and to the way the natural world can return us to ourselves without asking anything of us. Here, the sea becomes rhythm, memory and emotion, moving endlessly between stillness and force. The image holds that threshold: a moment of release, belonging and return.
Rendered in softly warm grainy black and white, the photograph has a timeless, atmospheric quality. Its expanse of water and negative space brings calm and depth to a living room, bedroom, entrance hall or hospitality interior.

The artwork is printed on premium canvas and custom framed to order in Cape Town. It is available in a Natural Obeche or Kiaat-Stained Obeche floating frame.
