Republic of Venus — Poetry, for your walls.

Republic of Venus is an art and design studio founded by South African artist and photographer Romy Maxime.

Born from a love of photography, painting, storytelling and beautiful spaces, Republic of Venus creates artworks designed to bring atmosphere, emotion and a sense of story into the home.

Each piece begins with an idea, a memory, a photograph or a feeling and is developed using a combination of photography, mixed-media techniques and contemporary creative tools. The result is a collection that moves between photography and painting .. familiar yet dreamlike, nostalgic yet contemporary.

Inspired by South Africa — its landscapes, light, people and wildlife — alongside places and moments collected further afield, the work explores our inner landscapes as much as the physical ones around us: our memories, hopes, dreams and the moments we carry with us. Each piece is created to be more than an artwork in a space — it is something personal, evocative and felt.

Romy’s background spans fine-art photography, filmmaking and visual storytelling. Her work has been exhibited internationally and published across art, fashion and editorial platforms.

Republic of Venus brings these worlds together in a collection of art for everyday spaces … pieces made to be lived with, remembered and loved.
