It honours the independence and quiet courage of living in a way that feels true to oneself.

Within the painting, the dark horse symbolizes intuition, freedom and inner strength. Its lowered head holds a sense of inward listening, while its powerful presence suggests a spirit that remains untamed.

The work also draws on Romy’s sister’s love of all things equestrian, bringing a familial connection to its symbolism. The earthy red surrounding the horse holds warmth and belonging, a reminder that individuality and connection can exist together.

The Dark Horse celebrates the beauty of difference, and the strength of finding your own place in the world.

The artwork is printed on premium canvas and custom framed to order in Cape Town.
